Cranberry Juice and Cranberry Caplets won’t prevent UTI’s, study finds

by Susan Reef, editor US Food Safety blog

Sit in a group of woman, and mention UTI’s over the past 30 years and someone will say to drink cranberry juice and not just a little, a lot of cranberry juice.

It is folklore that has been debunked by a study that was publish in JAMA.

The study was conducted on 185 woman residing nursing home for a year. Among older women living in nursing homes, cranberry capsules, compared with placebo, did not have a significant effect on the presence of bacteriuria plus pyuria (UTI’s) over 1 year.
